WILL WILLIE BE A COWBOY? EXCLUSIVE MARKET

    January 29, 2010 by fryzie36

Willie Mason has been posted as a $1.90 chance of playing first grade for the Cowboys next year in a market released today by Sportingbet Australia.

The market has Mason rated as a $2.50 chance to play for any other NRL club in 2010 and $3.50 not to play a game of first grade NRL.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the Cowboys now looked the last available option for Mason and both parties seemed keen on getting the deal done.

“The noises coming from the other players certainly suggests they want to see him in Townsville next year and of course Mason has a big ally in Cowboys superstar Johnathan Thurston,” Sullivan said.

“I think if the Cowboys don’t pick him up there would be few other options for him other than to stay at the Roosters and try to change Brian Smith’s mind.

“His best chance then would probably to get a game when injuries or Origin duty created an opening.”

“He could go overseas of course but if the right deal was on the table from overseas, you would think he would have taken it already.”

The Cowboys are $23 chances for the Premiership and Sullivan said they would trim up if they managed to sign Mason.

“He might have been followed by controversy but Willie Mason is a top class International who would add some go forward to a Cowboys pack who have lost some big men in recent years,” Sullivan said.
