RACING: SISTER MADLY BACKED FOR LIGHTNING

Sydney filly, Sister Madly, has been heavily backed to produce an upset in the Lightning Stakes tomorrow with one bet to take out over $80,000 struck at Sportingbet Australia.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the Anthony Cummings trained filly had clearly been the best backed roughie in the race following an early spree of money for Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner.

“We took a bet of $2500 each way at $26 on Sister Madly and she is now into $21,” Sullivan said.

“She showed in the Spring that she is a top class filly and she has won two barrier trials which suggests she is fully wound up for a big run first up.

“She certainly looks to be the best chance of the roughies.”

Sullivan said Starspangledbanner continued to be well supported after being backed from $5.50 to $4.60 when markets were posted on Thursday.

“Starspangledbanner looks like running a clear favourite now as the money kept coming for him even after we turned the price off to $4.60,” he said.

“While he won the Caulfield Guineas, he certainly showed he is just as lethal over the 1000m in the Spring and that will give him the edge on some of his rivals.”
