Spider’s Spin – Harry Kewell Won’t Start!
We spoke to Zeljko before Australia’s first game. he told us Kewell won’t start and Emerton’s battling to be fit. He also told us how Australia can win.
Sportingbet: Hi Zeljko, we’ll get onto Australia’s game in a moment but we have to ask, how would England’s goalkeeper Robert Green be feeling today?
Zeljko Kalac: It goes without saying that he won’t be feeling to good but I think we’ll see plenty more goalkeeping errors before the Cup is over. We’ve already seen heaps of misjudged crosses in the build up matches. They make it harder for goalkeepers every time they introduce the type of balls they’re using.
SB: OK, that proves you’re a card carrying member of the goalkeeper’s union. Now on to what everyone wants to know about – What system will Australia use against Germany?
ZK: I think we’ll play 4-4-2-1. My spies tell me Harry won’t start and Emo is well less than 100 percent fit. Both will be breaking their necks to prove their fitness so let’s hope they are out there.
SB: How do you expect the match to be played?
ZK: We’ll defend for our lives and hope to score on a counter attack or from a set piece. We need to milk the fouls to give ourselves every opportunity to have as many set pieces as possible.
SB: What do we need to do to win?…..Guus Hiddink has said we need to attack?
ZK: Hiddink developed the defensive system we use now. He’s a tactical genius but he’s got to be kidding. If we attack we’ll leak goals, we need to defend.
SB:Who are the keys for Australia?
ZK: Mark Schwarzer needs to play a blinder and Moore and Neill need to be right at the top of their games. Attacking wise, Emerton’s the key as long as his fit.
SB: And German players to watch?
ZK: Lahm attacking down the left. We need to play a tight game on him and not let their right back go either. With our system it’s hard to defend the wide players.
SB:If one of Ghana or Serbia gets three points does it heap extra pressure on us?
ZK: I don’t think Ghana can win that game. They are just playing too badly. If Serbia win our hopes of qualifying are in big trouble so we need to cross our fingers and hope for a draw.
