Feature Race Watch – April 2 Review

We’ve taken a look at all the racing on Golden Slipper Day with a view to the big feature races coming up.

Rosehill Race 1
Make no mistake Bart has another serious racehorse in the shape of I Think I Do. This starcraft colt ran some impressive sectionals in his debut in a recent Canterbury night meeting and was far too good for his rivals on saturday. It’s a fair training effort to get a 2yo winning over 1400 second up and this bloke may just be something special – look for him in the Sires Produce and/or Champagne Stakes. Of the rest I wouldn’t be sacking Satirical Boy from the Waterhouse stable. He too was second up and looked to have some improvement.

Rosehill Race 2
Bart seems to have done lots of thinking lately and I liked the run of I Think I Do from a Derby perspective. He needs to be able to back up but that’s not usually a concern with this stable and he looked like he had the word stayer written all over him.

Rosehill Race 3
What can you say about More Joyous? She just toyed with her rivals on Saturday but will have to carry a big impost in the Doncaster, particurlarly if Rangirangdoo doesn’t run. Happy Hippy continues to run honest races. She’s probably just a shade short of top class but those prepared to take the long Doncaster odds about her could well be rewarded if Sydney’s heavens open up before the race.

Rosehill Race 4
An important lead up to the Oaks and there were some surprises and some disappointments. Brazilian Pulse covered nearly as much ground as Burke and Wills. She stuck on well and is still a well deserved Oaks favourite. Mirjulisa Lass burst into Oaks calculations after a great ride from Corey Brown. Those punters who took $61 would be on good terms with themselves as she looks as if 2400 won’t be a problem. Fibrillation seems to get better as her races get longer and she is now on the fourth line of Oaks betting at $8. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the runs of Pinker Pinker or Do Ra Mi from an Oaks perspective and think they will both struggle to run the trip out. Sworn To Secrecy has been well backed for the Oaks. I thought she was a distance doubt before Saturday and saw absolutely nothing to change my mind.

Rosehill Race 5
Cedarburg, Mourayan and Hawk Island all put in great trials for the Sydney Cup. Linton ran well but I would be surprised to see him get a strong two miles and don’t think they’ll press forward. Descarado and Maluckyday were both very disappointing and this may be the last we’ve seen of them this Autumn.

Rosehill Race 6
The three placegetters Rangirangdoo, Love Conquers All and Triple Elegance all put in great Doncaster trials but connections are up in the air over whether last year’s winner will start. Aloha lost few admirers at her first go at WFA and she comes into the Doncaster very well weighted. Would love to see Ilovethiscity win the Doncaster for my workmate Duncan McRae but he just ground at the end of yesterday’s race and I do have some doubts over him running a strong high pressure 1600. Thought Dao Dao may have some improvement left, especially as he drops to 53kg and I wasn’t impressed by Wall Street, King Mufthasa or Skilled.

Rosehill Race 7
Mosheen went terrific at only her second start and she looks a live Sires prospect. Elite Falls, Masthead, Altar and Shared Reflections all hit the line nicely and also look suited by this race if connections press on. Of these Altar had a very wide run and was probably not entitled to run on as well as she did.

Rosehill Race 8
Beijing Boy put in a nice Sydney Cup trial and could just be a value runner. Rainbow Styling and Kutchinsky both look capable of picking up a nice race. Count Encosta doesn’t look like he has come up this time in.

Rosehill Race 9
The winner Swift Alliance will be a chance in any Group sprint he contests. News Alert was stuck extremely wide and was not entitled to finish as well as he did. Latin News was disappointing.
