Hottest 100 Odds Released
Cee-Lo Green’s controversial hit ‘F U’ is Sportingbet Australia’s early $2.50 favourite to be named as Triple J’s number one song in their 2010 Hottest 100 countdown.
Sportingbet Australia spokesman Anthony Waller said it was a tough choice for favourite between Cee-Lo Green and Australian duo Angus & Julia Stone’s ‘Big Jet Plane’.
“it was a tough choice but the novelty value pushed it Cee-Lo Green’s way,” said Mr Waller.
“But our Hottest 100 punters are an astute lot and they’ll tell us pretty quickly if we went the right way.”
Mr Waller was pleased to see plenty of Australian artists right in betting contention.
“John Butler Trio, Washington, Sia and of course Angus & Julia Stone are right amongst the favourites,” Mr Waller said.
“We haven’t had an Australian number one since 2006 so it would be good to see another in 2010.”
‘Big Jet Plane’ is at $3.50 with John Butler Trio’s ‘Revolution, and The Wombats’ Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) on the third line at $9.00.

I love the tune of Cee-Lo Green’s nominated song, but the reality is the young kids who vote will jump at voting for this track purely due to the use of the “F” word. The same thing happened with last year’s winner “Little Lion Man” by Mumford & Sons. I’d be surprised if Cee-Lo Green ever has a song as this in his career again..

He is actually up for 4 Grammies next year! He has had a number of albums next to his name and was part of the collaboration under the name of Gnarls Barkley.
It will be interesting to see how voting turns out.
Who is your number one, Adam?
@ betblogadmin – Ideally I’d like The Wombats “Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)” to win, but I honestly can’t see anyone but Cee-Lo Green winning. However, upsets can happen. You only have to look at Silverchair’s “Straight Lines” for example. Thanks for the info btw!
dude people didn’t vote for little lion man because it swears? its because of the raw emotion in the song that many people relate to, and it’s the same with cee lo green – there comes a time when everyone just wants to sing along and flip someone the bird. that’s why it works.
also, if this does turn out right, i’m happy! washo, children collide, art vs science, the wombats and more.. i like it
You’d have to be pretty gullible to think that a fair percentage of people (especially young people) wouldn’t vote for Cee-Lo simply because of the title of the track. And as for Mumford & Sons, I like them but music has been pretty ordinary the past ten years and none of the recent Triple J Hottest 100 winner’s are even close to tracks like “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Wonderwall” or “Love Will Tear Us Apart”. The better tracks are usually found in the 51-100 positions. And the Grammy’s mean nothing to me.. Joan Osbourne had one big single in 95 for “One Of Us” and got nominated for four awards as well? All music award ceremonies are a sham. The Arias, case and point.. Sorry, have to have my vent over the current state of music
I agree with Adam H…the youngins will vote for F U because of the profanity…have you listened to the censored version, Forget You..? its almost unbearable. Bliss N Eso or Wombats all the way..
“the young kids who vote will jump at voting for [Cee Lo Green's F U] purely due to the use of the “F” word”
Could you be more wrong? The smart money was always on Big Jet Plane. F U was far too overplayed, and the voting demographic for the Hottest 100 couldn’t give two f words (irony intended) about swearing in a song. Please realise that this generation is more desensitised than any previous. We’re not any more impressed by four-letter words than Ebenezer Scrooge is impressed by tinsel and candy canes.
Hi Declan
We love getting your comments but I did have to do a small edit to keep it G rated – I hope you feel your point still comes across
