Mark Waughs tips for 4th Test – Australia v India
Australia trounced the Indians as Mark Waugh predicted in Perth and after tipping the Aussies to win 4-0 before that match, it is hard to imagine he saw much to change his mind there. India are also without their skipper MS Dhoni and are rank outsiders at Sportingbet to avoid a series whitewash in Adelaide. Bill Richmond gets all Mark’s views for the final Test of the Summer.
Latest Odds – HERE
Bill Richmond: Mark, the Indians were dreadful in Perth and Australia are $1.75 favourites for Adelaide as a result with the draw $3.50 and India $4.75. Can you see anything other than another win for the Aussies in Adelaide?
Mark Waugh: I said before the Perth Test I thought Australia would win the series 4-0 and I really don’t see any reason to change. This is the pitch where you think the Indians would be best suited but they have just been dreadful and I couldn’t possibly back them here. I can’t believe how poor India were in Perth. There seems to be trouble in the Indian camp and they have lost their captain although I don’t know how much of a loss he will be as they have been tactically poor all summer. A lot of their batsmen are struggling, don’t look like getting back in form and are looing old and slow. I don’t think either side are really batting the way that could provide a draw and while Australia aren’t big odds at $1.75, I still think they are the way to go.
BR: With the exception of Shaun Marsh, all the Australians have looked good at times this summer, who looks the value to you to score big runs in Adelaide?
MW: Dave Warner looked great in Perth and has the advantage of scoring so quickly. If he can see the new ball off then I think he looks the value at $4.50. He is in great form and most of the other Aussies have been a bit hit and miss. The short square boundaries could also really suit Warner if he gets through the new ball and gets going.
BR: For the Indians, Tendulkar has looked the clearly the best of them this summer, is there anyone else you can see doing well in Adelaide.
MW: Tendulkar has looked the most solid but mainly because so many of their other batsmen are out of form. Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag have all looked horribly out of sorts and I couldn’t back any of them and Gambhir has been battling for runs too. Kohli has looked quite good and I would like to see him bat higher up the order in Adelaide. Tendulkar looks the obvious at $5.00 and Kohli could be the value at $7.00.
BR: Nathan Lyon comes in for Mitchell Starc in Adelaide after all the quicks bowled well in Perth. Who do you think Adelaide will suit from the Aussie bowlers.
MW: I think Ryan Harris could be really well suited in Adelaide after being unlucky in Perth. He bowls quite full and stump to stump. If the ball starts reversing which it can do in Adelaide that will suit him too and he could well be the value at $3.75 here I think.
BR: The Indians will probably bring their spinner, Ravi Ashwin back in for the Adelaide Test. Is he the one here or are there any of the quicks you fancy will go well here?
MW: There were big wraps on Ashwin before he arrived here and I have been waiting for him to do something all series. He will bowl a lot of overs you would think in Adelaide which should give him every chance to top the wicket tally. He might also get more attacking fields with a new skipper after he really wasn’t given much of a chance with the defensive fields in Sydney. I think given the overs he will bowl, he could be the value at $4.00 in the first innings and will be more dangerous again in the second dig.All their quicks have looked in patches but have struggled for consistency. Zaheer Khan is a very good reverse swing bowler and Adelaide could suit him and he is probably the most likely of the quick bowlers at $3.25.
