First Command Backed For NZ Assignment
A wide barrier has not deterred Sportingbet Australia punters from backing the Lee Freedman trained First Command in from $7.50 to $7.00 for tomorrow’s Telegraph Handicap at Trentham.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters came for the Commands gelding as soon as the market went up.
“We’ve taken a stack of bets on First Command including one of $2500 ew at $7.50,” said Sullivan.
“You’d think Dunn would need to have a bit of luck from barrier 24 but the money keeps on coming.”
Sullivan said fellow Australian raider Swift Alliance ($3.70 fav) had been a little easy so far.
“There hasn’t been a nibble for Swift Alliance yet but I do expect that to change by race time,” said Sullivan.
“He should be able to settle right behind the pace and you’d expect him to be solid at the end.”
A third Australian, the Tim Martin trained Monton, is steady at $10 in early betting.
